What you will learn
Why Quranic Arabic is learnable
The Quran has around 77,000 words, but a relatively small vocabulary repeats very often. Words like ููุงูู (he said), ุฑูุจู (Lord), ุขู ููููุง (they believed) and ููููู (day) appear hundreds of times. Most Arabic words also grow from three-letter roots: once you know ุน ู ู (knowledge), you can recognise ุนููููู ุ ุนูููู ุ ููุนูููู ููููุ ุนูุงููู ููู. That combination of common words and patterns lets learners understand a large share of what they recite surprisingly quickly.
How the course is structured
- Script and pronunciation, if needed. Students who cannot yet read start with Noorani Qaida.
- Core vocabulary from al-Fatiha and Juz 'Amma.
- Roots and patterns so new words become recognisable.
- Grammar essentials: verb forms, pronouns, the definite article, prepositions.
- Applied reading: short surahs read and understood word by word.

Who teaches Arabic
How often and how long
Two lessons a week of 30 to 45 minutes, with 10 to 15 minutes of vocabulary review on other days, works well for most adults. Within a few months, most students can follow the meaning of the short surahs they pray with. Building strong reading comprehension of longer passages takes longer and depends on regular practice.
