The foundation of Islam rests on several core beliefs that shape the faith of its followers.

In Islam, the fundamental beliefs are Seven:

Seven Beliefs of Islam:

  1. Allah: The concept of the one true God.
  2. Angels of Allah: Divine beings serving Allah’s will.
  3. Books of Allah: Sacred texts revealed to prophets.
  4. Messengers of Allah: Chosen individuals delivering Allah’s message.
  5. The Day of Judgement: The culmination of human existence.
  6. Predestination or Al-Qadr: Divine decree and destiny.
  7. Life after Death (Akhirah): The eternal realm beyond earthly life.

These beliefs are summarized in the declaration of faith known as Al-Imanul Mufassal, emphasizing belief in Allah, His angels, His books, His messengers, the Last Day, divine decree, and the afterlife.

The Seven Beliefs are Categorized into Three main groups:

  1. Tawhid (Oneness of Allah): Central belief in the unity and supremacy of Allah.
  2. Risalah (Prophethood): Acknowledgment of divine messengers and their guidance.
  3. Akhirah (Life after Death): Belief in the Day of Judgement and eternal existence.

Understanding Tawhid, Risalah, and Akhirah is essential for comprehending the Islamic way of life.

1) Tawhid: Oneness of Allah

Tawhid, the core principle of Islam, emphasizes the unity and sovereignty of Allah. Expressed eloquently in Suratul-Ikhlas, Tawhid underscores Allah’s uniqueness, omnipotence, and omnipresence.

Significance of Tawhid

  1. Foundational Principle: Tawhid encompasses belief in Allah’s attributes and authority.
  2. Declaration of Faith: The Shahadah affirms Tawhid, denoting submission to Allah’s oneness.
  3. Cleansing the Heart: Just as a field must be cleared for sowing, the heart must be purified for Tawhid to flourish.

Impact of Tawhid on Human Life

  1. Submission to Allah: Surrendering to Allah grants control over worldly matters.
  2. Self-Respect and Confidence: Trusting in Allah fosters self-assurance and reliance.
  3. Humility and Modesty: Recognizing Allah’s sovereignty cultivates humility and modesty.
  4. Dutifulness and Uprightness: Obedience to Allah’s commands fosters righteousness.
  5. Contentment and Bravery: Contentment arises from trust in Allah, while bravery stems from faith in His protection.
  6. Unity with the Universe: Belief in Tawhid fosters a sense of unity and purpose.

Al-Qadr: Divine Decree

Al-Qadr affirms Allah’s control over the universe and foreknowledge of all events. While Allah guides humanity, individuals retain free will and accountability.

2) Risalah: Prophethood

i) Risalah: Prophets of Allah

Risalah serves as the conduit between Allah and humanity, providing divine guidance for righteous living. Prophets, human messengers chosen by Allah, disseminate His message of monotheism and righteousness.

ii) Angels: Servants of Allah

Angels, celestial beings created to execute Allah’s commands, serve as intermediaries between humans and the divine. Their unwavering obedience and tireless service exemplify devotion to Allah’s will.

iii) The Books of Allah

Allah’s guidance to humanity is enshrined in sacred texts revealed to prophets throughout history. While the Qur’an remains unaltered, other scriptures have undergone modification and distortion over time. The Qur’an stands as the ultimate, timeless guide for humanity, offering clarity and divine wisdom.

3) Akhirah (Life after Death)

in Islam, Akhirah means life after death. It’s a big idea that influences how Muslims see the world and how they behave.

Understanding Akhirah: Important Ideas

  • Day of Judgement: This is when everyone’s actions are judged by Allah. It’s like a big review of what people did during their lives.
  • Eternal Existence: After we die, Akhirah promises that our souls will live forever. Depending on how we lived, we might go to paradise or hell.
  • Divine Justice: Akhirah is all about fairness. Allah judges people based on what they did and what they meant to do.

Why Akhirah Matters in Islam

  • Moral Accountability: Akhirah makes Muslims feel responsible for their actions. They believe their choices have big consequences even after they die.
  • Spiritual Preparation: Knowing about Akhirah helps Muslims live better lives now. It motivates them to be good and seek guidance from Allah.
  • Hope and Comfort: When things are tough, belief in Akhirah gives Muslims hope. They think about the paradise waiting for them and feel better about their troubles.

Paradise and Hellfire

  • Paradise (Jannah): It’s a beautiful place where good people go after they die. It’s like the best vacation ever, forever.
  • Hellfire (Jahannam): This is a scary place for people who did bad things. It’s full of suffering and pain.

What Akhirah Means for Behavior

  • Ethical Conduct: Belief in Akhirah reminds Muslims to be good to others and do the right thing.
  • Detachment from Worldly Temptations: Knowing about Akhirah helps Muslims avoid getting too caught up in things that don’t really matter, like money or fame.
  • Sense of Purpose: Believing in Akhirah gives Muslims a reason to live well and make the world a better place. They know there’s more to life than just what happens here and now.

The Quran: Allah’s Eternal Guidance

The Quran is the holy book of Islam, given to us by Allah through the angel Jibra’il to Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). It’s in Arabic and was revealed over 23 years. Unlike other books, the Quran has stayed unchanged for over 1400 years. Allah promised to protect it. The Quran is a living miracle, memorized by many Muslims worldwide.

How the Quran Was Collected

Every word of the Quran was written down as it was revealed. Many companions of the Prophet memorized it. After the Prophet’s death, Abu Bakr suggested compiling it. Zaid bin Thabit led this task, and the Quran was compiled into one volume. Copies were sent to different places, ensuring its preservation.

Understanding Death: A Natural Event

Death is part of life, mentioned in the Quran. It’s a sad time for loved ones, but it doesn’t end the soul. Death reminds us to obey Allah and prepare for the afterlife. In Islam, the body is washed, prayed for, and buried respectfully. This life is temporary; Akhirah is eternal. It’s like a test where good deeds are rewarded, and bad deeds are punished. Prophets taught us about Akhirah, which motivates Muslims to live righteously. Belief in Akhirah influences how we live and shapes our actions.

Conclusion: Living by Quranic Values

The Quran guides Muslims in every aspect of life. It teaches us about Allah, prophets, and the afterlife. Believing in the Quran and preparing for Akhirah ensures a meaningful and righteous life. By following its teachings, we strive for success in this world and the hereafter.
